If I fail now.. everyone in this coffin... is utterly doomed. That blindingly bright and shining praise... like treasures from them to me. Up to now, I could never fully accept it. I was crushed under the weight of that wealth. It just felt easier to be down on myself. Thank you... everyone. Because now that crushing weight... makes me stronger!
Tamaki Amajiki in "Light Fades to Rain"

Tamaki Amajiki ( (あま) (じき) (たまき) Amajiki Tamaki?), also known by his hero name Suneater (サンイーター San'ītā?), is a student in Class 3-A[4] at U.A. High School and is part of The Big 3.[5] He will be Fat Gum's sidekick.[6]

Appearance[]

Tamaki is a tall young man with rather pale skin. His ears are longer than most, their tips pointy and somewhat elf-like. He has messy, indigo hair, which sticks out behind his head, and thin, tired-looking eyes, partially covered by his bangs. Tamaki's shoulders are usually hunched, and he avoids eye contact with people.

Tamaki wears his tie slightly loosened when wearing his school uniform, and his shirt is only partially tucked in.

Tamaki's hero costume consists of a black bodysuit decorated with gold plating around the arms and shoulders. He dons a white tunic, matching cape, and hood with more gold layering on the top. The cape connects to a scarf-like collar with a silver front mask. Tamaki also sports a purple mask over his face and a matching purple carrier vest with red straps. He wears a mask over his eyes and is barefoot, giving him more freedom when using his Quirk.

Personality[]

Tamaki Amajiki tells Mirio not to fight Class 1-A

Tamaki hiding his face from view.

Tamaki is extremely shy, aloof, depressed, "intimidating", and introverted, especially around big audiences. He gets nervous very easily when talking to other people. If his anxiety gets the best of him, Tamaki will often face away and lean into a wall to hide his face from others.[7] This also happens whenever Tamaki has a bad feeling or feels insulted.[8]

While his physical abilities and Quirk are outstanding, Tamaki is socially awkward and lacks confidence in his powers. He feels overwhelmed by the pressure to be perfect, which has damaged his self-esteem.[9] Tamaki is quick to point out when others are too optimistic in his pessimistic opinion and cannot recognize his achievements. His pessimism directly contrasts with Fat Gum's optimism. Even after being complimented by Fat Gum, Tamaki often takes his mentor's praise for taunting.[2]

Despite his timid heart, Tamaki can show flashes of bravery. Even though he's always been a shy and reserved boy, Tamaki was able to hone his skills and climb the ranks into one of U.A.'s Big 3. Mirio Togata is a big inspiration for Tamaki, and their cooperation throughout their lives has led him to establish his own set of stern beliefs that he will uphold and vocalize.

Episode 71

Suneater's fierce resolve.

Tamaki does not believe anyone should undermine another person's hard work. He noticed Class 1-A could not recognize how much work Mirio put into honing his power, and even showed his face to comment on it.[10] Mirio often inspires Tamaki to act even when he's feeling anxious. Inspired by Mirio's bravery during the yakuza raid, Suneater shows a bright flash of courage, stepping up to the challenge of facing three villains alone so that the others can complete the mission.[11]

While fighting against the villains, Tamaki pushes himself to his limit to uphold the expectations set on him by Fat Gum, Mirio, and others who believe in him. Tamaki voiced his disapproval of the way Toya Setsuno, Yu Hojo, and Soramitsu Tabe consider themselves expendable to Overhaul, but he appears to understand the bond between allies very well.[12]

Abilities[]

Suneater Tentacle Takedown

Suneater taking on 3 powerful villains at once.

Overall Abilities: Tamaki is one of U.A. High School's most powerful students alongside Mirio Togata and Nejire Hado, who are all collectively known as The Big 3. Tamaki has been stated to have skills and abilities that far outclass that of most Pro Heroes.

Tamaki has mastered his Quirk, Manifest, through vigorous training. He can manipulate feature selection, size manipulation, and simultaneous manifestations. This multifaceted aspect gives Tamaki's fighting style incredible variation and unpredictability.[12] Tamaki eats plenty of Takoyaki and Clams daily because he believes they're great for offense and defense. For example, Tamaki often uses tentacle fingers to bind his opponents while using a clamshell husk for protection.[2] Tamaki has a variety of other powerful combinations as well, including using chicken talon strengthened with octopus muscles or tentacle fingers reinforced by crab shells. Fat Gum strongly believes Tamaki's abilities are above his own and an entire team of Pro heroes and students that included the rest of the Big Three, Ryukyu, Eraser Head, and Rock Lock.[9]

Tamaki has proven his strength on multiple occasions. He was able to effortlessly neutralize dangerous villains before having his Quirk temporarily erased.[2] Tamaki's mettle was proven when he faced off against Toya Setsuno, Yu Hojo, and Soramitsu Tabe of the Eight Bullets in a 3-on-1 fight and was confident that he could take on the Yakuza trio by himself.

Suneater counterattacks

Tamaki reveals he clandestinely consumed some of Yu Hojo's crystals, allowing him to catch the Yakuza member off-guard.

Tactical Intellect: Tamaki demonstrates incredible tactical judgments during fights. He acted quickly to disarm Toya, Yu, and Soramitsu at once to tip the favor to the heroes. After doing so, he stated it was a bad idea for all of the present heroes to fight the trinity at once, correctly deducing that the villains were trying to stall as many heroes as possible for Overhaul to make his getaway with Eri. He noted that it's best that the rest of his comrades, especially Eraser Head, save their Quirks for when they get deeper into the Yakuza fortress, and they need to be at 100% of their power to break through the shifting walls caused by Joi Irinaka's Mimicry Quirk.

During his battle with three of the Eight Bullets, Tamaki showcased his aptitude to create strategies amid battle. Tamaki attempted to manifest the neurotoxin from an octopus's saliva within his arm, knowing that Soramitsu wouldn't be able to move if he ate the appendage. Even when overwhelmed by the trio's camaraderie, Suneater developed an impromptu strategy quickly. He disrupted their teamwork by first obscuring Toya's vision, knowing the object-stealing villain relies on sight to use Larceny. He then used Yu Hojo's crystals against him by devouring them and creating a solid defense to stop Yu.

After defeating the trio, Tamaki relieved them of their masks and kept them on hand as a precaution, having witnessed Toya reveal that he had a hidden dagger concealed within his mask at the beginning of the bout.

During the Final War against the Villains, Tamaki was selected to join the Assault team pitted against the body-enhanced "Tomura Shigaraki," undoubtedly the most powerful in the world. A short while later, alongside his Big Three teammates, they could hold back the enhanced villain for an extended period.

Quirk[]

Manifest

Tamaki manifesting multiple animal characteristics.

Manifest ( (さい) (げん) Saigen?): Tamaki's Quirk grants him the ability to manifest the physical characteristics of anything he's eaten; for example, if he eats takoyaki, he can transform his fingers into octopus tentacles. Additionally, anything Tamaki manifests is significantly stronger than normal, as seen by how his crab claws can easily crush metal weapons. The more of a substance Tamaki eats, the stronger his manifestation will be.

He can only manifest the traits of substances still in his system and loses access to those traits once the substance is fully digested. He must resupply his Quirk daily and decide what foods to eat beforehand.

After vigorous training at U.A., Tamaki can use multiple manifestations simultaneously, control the manifestation's size, and accurately choose the best features of whatever he's eaten to fit any situation.

Ultimate Moves[]

  • Vast Hybrid ( (こん) (せい) (たい) () Konsei Taika?): Tamaki makes use of his Manifest Quirk and produces one or more instance of animal or food on his body in any way he likes. This technique can be used for multiple purposes, including offense and stealth. This move is also called Vast Hybrid Chimera ( (こん) (せい) (たい) () キメラ Konsei Taika Kimera?).
    • Kraken (クラーケン Kurāken?): Tamaki's arms change into a pair of four giant tentacles coated in suction cups, which he uses to thrash in a large area, hitting multiple opponents.
    • Centaur (ケンタウロス Kentaurosu?): Tamaki transforms his lower body into the lower half of a horse, grow horns and his hands transform into vines that hold different hard fruits on the end of them that he uses to strike multiple enemies at once.[6]
    • Octopus Mirage (オクトパスミラージュ Okutopasu Mirāju?): Tamaki replicates the cloaking abilities of octopuses to mask his presence with the surroundings so he can attack his target by surprise.[13]
    • Scorpius Toxin (スコルピウストキシン Sukorupiusu Tokishin?): Tamaki manifests scorpion tails on his body with which to attack his opponent and inject venom into them.[13]
    • Plasma Cannon (波動砲 (プラズマキャノン) Purazumakyanon?): Tamaki transforms his arm into a monstrous form with the attributes of multiple manifestations, which when combined with Nejire's energy, can produce a giant laser blast. Elements that make up this combination include but are not limited to, zebra tarantula, dragonfruit, spider crab, sika deer, American alligator, green sea turtle, locust, red sea urchin, soft shell turtle, watermelon, and moso bamboo.[14]
