File:Shouto's Past.png

Shouto's past.

Shouto's father, Endeavor, was always overlooked by All Might and seen as the Number 2 hero of all time, regardless of his impressive crime solving records. Due to that, Endeavor developed an obsession with surpassing All Might, to the point of forcing a Quirk Marriage upon Shouto's mother in order to conceive a child with a Quirk strong enough to be capable of surpassing All Might.[1]

When he was five years old, Shouto started to receive training from his father. However, the training was harsh and cruel to the point of making Shouto throw up. Shouto's mother tried to defend him, but Endeavor refused to listen and would even hit her. His father also prevented Shouto from interacting with his older siblings. Shouto began to despise the training and hate his father for abusing his mother. During these dark times, Shouto's mother would always be there to support him. Despite the abuse she suffered, she'd tell Shouto that he is not a slave to his blood and can become whatever he wants to be.

However, Shouto's mother started to lose her sanity due to all the abuse received from her husband, finding it painful to look at Shouto because his left side reminded her of Endeavor. One day, as she talked with her own mother over the phone about her trauma and recognized that she no longer had the mental stability to raise her son, she was startled by Shouto's sudden appearance at the door. Seeing Shouto's left side, she snapped, and threw boiling water over the boy's face, causing a burn over his left eye.

Some time after this incident, Shouto asked his father where his mother was, and Endeavor replied that he sent her to the hospital for hurting him, much to Shouto's shock. Shouto blamed Endeavor, saying that everything that happened was his fault. At some point later in his life, Shouto would forget about his mother's supportive words.[2]

Synopsis

Battle Trial Arc

File:Shouto freezing Mashirao.png

Shouto freezes the building.

Shouto is teamed up with Mezou as a team of Heroes against Mashirao and Tooru as a team of Villains. He is informed by Mezou of the opposing team's positions and instructs him to go outside of the building.[3] Shouto freezes the entire building and then suddenly appears on the floor where the core is. He says to Mashirao that he can take a step forward, but warns him of the consequences of doing so as the floor is frozen by his doing. With both Tooru and Mashirao frozen, Shouto touches the core, allowing him and Mezou to win.[4]

Unforeseen Simulation Joint Arc

File:Shouto being warped.png

Shouto is warped away.

When the Villains invade the Ultimate Space and Jams, Shouto surmises that the villains have a Quirk user who has the ability to prevent sensors from going off. After taking the area they are in and his class' schedule into account, Shouto deduces that the villains have an objective, and notes that it isn't an ambush without a carefully planned scheme behind it.[5]

He tries to evacuate with his class, but his attempt to is intervened by Kurogiri. He is then warped to the landslide area of the U.S.J where he is confronted by a group of villains. He taunts the villains over not having mercy for kids and not acting like adults, and begins to fight.[6]

File:Shouto vs Villains.png

Shouto freezes all the villains.

Shouto quickly defeats all the villains in the area, sarcastically remarking that while their mission is to scatter and kill the students, they're unable to even effectively wield their Quirks.[7] Since the villains are unable to do anything due to being completely frozen by his ice, he states that they will die if they stay frozen for too long, and decides to take the opportunity to ask the villains what is their plan to kill All Might.[8]

Shouto then appears during All Might's fight with Noumu, Kurogiri, and Shigaraki Tomura, freezing half of Noumu's body which, along with Katsuki's attack on Kurogiri, frees All Might from Noumu. He then says that he heard about each of the villains' roles in killing All Might, but that the Symbol of Peace won't go down so easily.[9] Shouto then watches All Might's fight with Noumu, in awe over the hero's power. He is later seen with his class after the battle with the Villain Alliance is over.[10]

Sports Festival Arc

File:Shouto hears Ochako and Iida.png

Shouto overhears Ochako and Iida talk.

Shouto is seen in class listening to Shouta Aizawa's announcement about the U.A. Sports Festival approaching.[11] Later in the lunchroom, Shouto overhears Ochako Uraraka and Tenya IIda's conversation about All Might having taken an interest in Izuku Midoriya, which grabs his interest.[12]

As Class 1-A prepares to enter the Sports Festival, Shouto approaches Izuku and tells him that he thinks he's stronger than him, and knows about All Might's interest in him. He then declares that he will defeat Izuku. Izuku admits that he is definitely strong and could beat more than half the people in their class, but states to him that everyone are giving it their all, hoping to be the best and that he will also give it his all, intriguing Shouto.[13]

File:Shouto freezes the ground.png

Shouto freezes the ground.

When the Obstacle Race begins, Shouto freezes the ground and skids into first place as well as hindering everyone else due to freezing their feet. However, several of his classmates manage to avoid having themselves stuck in his ice, causing him to comment that he might have underestimated how many of them would be able to avoid the attack.[14]

When a giant robot appear blocking Shouto's path, he freezes it, saying to himself that the U.A. staff could have thrown something tougher in his way since his "shitty old man" is watching. Shouto runs on ahead, warning the others behind him that he froze the robot in a dangerous position and thus it will crash down, which causes a blockade and stops the other competitors while Shouto forges ahead.[15]

Izuku blasts into the lead

Shouto watches Izuku blast himself into the lead.

Shouto manages to get across the Fall easily while still keeping the lead.[16] He then reaches the final leg of the race which is a land mine field. Shouto treads carefully, realizing that it is meant to be a disadvantage for the person in the lead.[17] Suddenly, Katsuki Bakugou blasts himself towards Shouto with his Quirk and states that Shouto issued his war declaration to the wrong rival. Both Shouto and Katsuki get into a brief scuffle.[18]

Moments later, Shouto watches in bewilderment as Izuku flies towards him and Katsuki.[19] Izuku manages to pass them, but Shouto manages to quickly catch up to him. Before he is able to take the lead again, Izuku uses his metal plate to trigger another explosion and shield himself from it at the same time. The explosion makes Shouto and Katsuki stop momentarily, allowing Izuku to place first.[20] Shouto then crosses the finish line placing second,[21] thus allowing him to continue on to the next event, the Human Cavalry Battle.

Team Todoroki confronts Team Midoriya

Team Todoroki confronts Team Midoriya.

Shouto teams up with Tenya Iida, Momo Yaoyorozu and Denki Kaminari for the second event.[22] He explains to his teammates that the reason he chose them is because their Quirks would give them the most balanced battle formation. He then goes on to explain what their battle strategy will be.[23]

When asked whether he can feint attacks using his Quirk, Shouto states that he will never use his fire side during combat, while staring at his father, who is watching from the bleachers.[24] Shortly after the Human Cavalry Battle begins, Shouto and his teammates confront Izuku's team.[25]

Shouto instructs Momo to prepare an insulator sheet and Denki to prepare to release his electricity. Shouto covers himself along with Momo and Tenya with the insulator sheet while Denki releases a huge amount of electricity, electrocuting and stunning the other teams attacking them.

File:Shouto catches the ten million headband.png

Shouto snatches Izuku's headband.

Afterwards, Shouto immobilizes the stunned teams by freezing their legs. He then takes their headbands while charging forward to fight Izuku's team. Fumikage's Dark Shadow tries to attack Shouto but Momo uses her Quirk to block the attack. Shouto's team continues fighting, but Izuku's team proves to be quite resilient. Shouto ponders that Izuku has figured his weak spot and tries to think of a plan. With only a minute left, Tenya tells his team to hold on tight as he uses his move Recipro Burst to forcibly accelerate his movement to blazing speeds allowing him and his team to speed past their enemies in a blink of an eye which catches Izuku's team off guard and allows Shouto to grab Izuku's 10 million headband in the confusion.

File:Shouto's reaction.png

Shouto's reaction to subconsciously using his fire power.

Shouto then sees that Izuku is preparing to attack him with full force in order to take back the headband. Realizing that the danger is high, Shouto subconsciously uses his fire power, setting his left arm alight as Izuku charges towards him.[26]

Shouto's left arm is knocked away by the wind pressure Izuku's attack creates. He then realizes that he is using his fire power and is shocked by his own attitude. That leads him to let his guard down, allowing Izuku to take one of his headbands.

File:Izuku and Shouto's Talk.png

A talk between two rivals.

However, Izuku did not take the ten million point headband, but instead a 70-point one. Tenya tells Shouto to pull himself together, snaping Shouto back to reality. For the last ten seconds, Shouto's team prepares to defend themselves from Izuku's team, but the Human Cavalry Battle ends shortly after. Shouto's team places first, allowing them to participate in the final event. Frustrated over using his fire power, he says to himself he cannot go on like this. After the lunch break begins, Shouto meets Izuku in private, wanting to tell him something.[27]

File:Shouto misunderstands.png

A "small" misunderstanding.

Shouto says that Izuku made him broke his pledge of never using his fire power in combat. Shouto assumes that Izuku is All Might's illegitimate son, but Izuku, shocked, denies it. Due to his answer, Shouto concludes that Izuku has some connection to All Might. He then tells Izuku about his father, Endeavor, who has been the number two hero forever and if Izuku is connected to All Might, the number one hero, he has all the more reason to win against Izuku.

Todoroki's Past

Shouto talks about his past.

Shouto explains how he was born out of a Quirk Marriage due to his father's obsession with surpassing All Might. He then reveals some of his past; that his mother despised his left side and dumped boiling water on him. Shouto explains that the reason he must beat Izuku, someone who is connected to All Might, is a personal triumph over his father: he aims to rise to the top without using his father's Quirk. Shouto then walks away, but before he goes Izuku states that he cannot lose either and that he, too, wants to beat Shouto.

The final event is revealed to be tournament, and Shouto's opponent in the first round is Hanta Sero. Seeing that his second round opponent would most likely be Izuku, Shouto expresses surprise to face him so soon, but says that he will defeat him with his own hands. During the recreational events, Shouto is seen outside thinking to himself.

File:Shouto encounters his father.png

Shouto encounters his father.

As Shouto walks to the ring for his first round fight, he encounters hisfather. Shouto tells him to get out of his way, but Endeavor ignores him and instead says that Shouto's behavior is disgraceful and that if he had used his fire power, he could have easily crushed the past two events.

Endeavor goes on to say that he needs to stop resisting and see to his duty to surpass All Might. He states that Shouto is different than his older siblings: he is his "greatest masterpiece". Endeavor's talking enrages Shouto, who speaks up about how surpassing All Might is all his father ever has to say, and once again declares that he will only ever use his mother's Quirk in battle. Endeavor taunts him, saying that even if his tactic works for now, he will soon enough reach a point where he will have to rely on his fire power, which infuriates Shouto.

File:Shouto vs Hanta.png

Shouto vs. Hanta

Shouto walks into the ring to meet his opponent, Hanta. Once the battle begins, Hanta wraps tape around Shouto, attempting to throw him out of the ring. Shouto, still furious about his father's speech, fiercely retaliates by creating a Giant Ice Wall, a humongous pillar of ice that freezes most of Hanta's body and in the process, freezes and shatters his tape, freeing Shouto.

Hanta is unable to move and, as a result, Shouto is declared the winner, thus moving on to the next round. Shouto goes to the immobilized Hanta and apologizes for overdoing it, saying that he was just aggravated. He then uses his fire to melt the ice off Hanta.[28]

File:Izuku vs Shouto.png

Shouto and Izuku clash.

Shortly after Eijirou and Tetsutetsu's arm wrestling game, Shouto walks into the ring to meet his second round opponent, Izuku. Once the match begins, Shouto strikes first, sending a wave of ice towards Izuku. Izuku counters by sending a great amount of wind pressure, destroying the incoming ice and knocking Shouto back. Shouto is hit again by the wind pressure of Izuku's attack, but uses the ice behind him to prevent himself from being blown out of the ring. Shouto sends another wave of ice against Izuku and starts charging towards him. Izuku destroys the ice again but Shouto continues to close on Izuku. Shouto runs onto his ice, jumps off it, goes into the air and lands down onto the ground, knocking Izuku back and at the same time sends ice towards Izuku which freezes his foot. Seeing that Izuku is trapped, Shouto takes the chance to attack him.

Repelling

Shouto's attack being repelled.

However, Izuku strikes back by sending a huge blast of wind pressure against Shouto, which strongly knocks him back, but Shouto once again creates ice behind him to prevent himself from being blown out of the ring. Shouto then says that Izuku has reached his limit and just as he thought the pros who are watching can now see that he is more than just the 'son of No. 2'. Shouto then says that Izuku shouldn't fight with the way his hands are and decides to end the fight, sending a wave of ice towards Izuku.

However, Izuku sends another blast of wind pressure, destroying the incoming ice and knocking back a surprised Shouto. Izuku states that he realized Shouto has a limit to how cold he can get from generating ice, but he could use his left side to solve that problem. Izuku criticizes Shouto for declaring that he would win using only half of his power, but has yet to land a single hit on him. Izuku then demands that Shouto fights him seriously. Shouto, now angry, asks what Izuku he is planning.[29]

File:Izuku tells Shouto his power is his own.png

"Your power is your own!"

Enraged, Shouto charges towards Izuku, but the frostbite prevents him from evading properly. Izuku punches him in the stomach, knocking him down. Shouto gets back up and launches a wave of ice at Izuku, which he destroys with a blast of wind pressure and once again knocks Shouto back. Izuku says that while he may never understand Shouto's circumstances and resolution, he thinks that becoming Number One without using his full strength in order to disown someone is a joke.

Telling Izuku to shut up, Shouto starts remembering his painful past and how his father was abusive towards him and his mother. Meanwhile, he also begins to experience the full effect of his frostbite, causing frost to appear over his right side. Unable to move properly, he is hit by Izuku again. Shouto remembers the incident of his mother throwing boiling water over his face. As Shouto gets up, Izuku tells him that his power belongs only to him.

Half-Cold Half-Hot

Shouto unleashes his full power.

After Izuku says these words, Shouto finally remembers what his mother said to him in the past: that he isn't a slave to his bloodline and can become whatever he wants to be. Touched by his mother's and Izuku's words, Shouto activates his fire power, setting the left side of his body ablaze. He tells Izuku that he wants to become a hero as well, and smiles.[30]

Shouto powers up for one final attack and sends a great wave of ice towards Izuku. After thanking Izuku, he ignites the cold air generated by his wave of ice with his fire to create a huge wind blast. That, along with Izuku's wind pressure attack, creates a huge shock wave which blasts both of them back.

File:Shouto says he forgot Endeavor.png

Shouto tells his father he forgot about him.

After the dust and smoke clears up, Shouto is seen standing in the ring without any injuries, while Izuku is out of bounds. Shouto is declared the winner and advances to the third round.

After leaving the ring, Shouto encounters his father in the corridor. Endeavor tells Shouto that he is proud of him for accepting to use his fire power and that he has become the perfect upgrade of him. However, Shouto tells Endeavor that he cannot change so easily and hasn't rescinded his disavowal of him. Shouto then says the only reason he used his fire power was because for a split second he completely forgot about him. As he walks away, Shouto says that he still needs to think.[31]

Speed vs Ice

Shouto faces Tenya.

Shouto faces his opponent, Tenya, in his third round match. Once the match begins, Shouto attacks first with a wave of ice but Tenya dodges the ice by jumping over it.

Tenya uses Recipro Burst and tries to attack Shouto with a speed-enhanced kick, but Shouto dodges. Tenya quickly counters and attacks Shouto with another kick, slamming Shouto down onto the ground. Shouto retaliates by grabbing Tenya's leg, but Tenya kicks him away. Tenya then grabs Shouto and proceeds to try and throw him out of bounds.

Katsuki blows up the table

Katsuki's aggressive attempt at getting Shouto's attention.

However, along the way, Tenya realizes that there is ice in his mufflers, slowing him down. Shouto reveals that he put ice in his mufflers when he grabbed his leg and freezes Tenya's entire body. Unable to move, Tenya is declared defeated and Shouto advances to the final round of the tournament. While walking away, Shouto admits to Tenya that he could not fully evade his Recipro Burst and that he expected no less from it.[32]

File:Katsuki and Shouto talk.png

Katsuki tells Shouto he doesn't care about his feelings nor Izuku.

Shouto waits in the waiting room for his final match to begin while thinking about Izuku's words to him during their match. The door slams open, revealing Katsuki, who barged into the wrong room. Shouto doesn't pay attention to Katsuki, much to his annoyance. Katsuki complains about Shouto's attitude towards a fellow finalist and uses a small explosion on the table to get his attention.

Shouto asks Katsuki if Izuku has been the type of person who drags out peoples' problems and helps them since childhood. Katsuki angrily kicks the table over, telling Shouto that he doesn't care about Izuku nor Shouto's feelings. Before leaving, Katsuki tells Shouto to give everything he's got during their match.[33]

File:Shouto vs Katsuki.png

Shouto and Katsuki clash.

Shouto goes to the arena and faces his opponent, Katsuki, in the final match. Shouto attacks Katsuki with a slightly smaller version of Giant Ice Wall. However, Katsuki thaws himself out with an explosion. He then somersaults himself into the air and grabs Shouto's hair and shirt, throwing him onto the ground. However, Shouto creates an ice wall behind himself to prevent himself from being thrown out of the ring.

Shouto is attacked by Katsuki again, but dodges his explosion and grabs Katsuki's arm. Shouto throws Katsuki into the ice wall, who becomes angry at Shouto for not using his full power. As Katsuki prepares his next attack, Shouto mentally apologizes to him and admits to himself that since fighting Izuku he is struggling on what to do.

File:Shouto defeated.png

From the stands, Izuku yells at Shouto to not give up, which makes him activate his fire power. However, as soon as he does, Shouto remembers his mother and becomes disheartened. He is then hit by Katsuki's Howitzer Impact. After the smoke clears, Shouto is out of bounds and knocked out. A furious Katsuki walks to Shouto and grabs him by his shirt, but is knocked out by Midnight's Quirk before he can do anything. Having gone out of bounds, Shouto loses.[34]

Later, at the closing ceremony of the Sports Festival, All Might gives Shouto his second place medal and asks him about his reasons for not using his left side. Shouto explains that he still has things he needs to deal with. All Might gives him a congratulatory hug and says that he won't pry any further, and that he knows now that Shouto can come to terms with anything that is troubling him.

File:Shouto reunites with his mother.png

Shouto reunites with his mother.

After the closing ceremony is finished, Shouto along with his class are given two off days. The next day, Shouto decides to go see his mother in the hospital. His older sister, Fuyumi, is surprised that Shouto is going to see their mother after such a long time and asks Shouto why, but he does not respond.

At the hospital, Shouto arrives at the door to his mother's room. Shouto believes that the only way to solve his problems and move forward, coming to terms with using his fire side and overcoming his trauma from childhood, is to meet his mother and talk to her. He takes a deep breath and enters his mother's room.[35] Shouto's mother apologizes to Shouto and forgives him, smiling at her son through tears.

Field Training Arc

File:Shouto's hero name.png

Shouto picks his hero name.

In class, after the two-day break, Shouto listens as Shouta reveals the Pro Hero nominations. Having received 4,123 Pro Hero nominations, Shouto has the highest amount of nominations out of Class 1-A. Afterwards, Class 1-A has to decide on Hero names. Shouto, however, picks his own first name as his hero name.[36]

After Class 1-A is finished formulating their Hero names, Shouto is given his personalized work place to choose where he wants to train at. On his list, Shouto sees his father's work place as one of his choices. On the day of the work place training, Shouto is at the train station with his class so that he can travel to the work place of his choice.[37]

File:Shouto arrives at the back alley.png

Shouto arrives at the scene.

Later, Shouto is in Hosu with his father, having chosen his office as his training workplace. He receives a text message on his cellphone from Izuku, and heads to the location sent in the message. As he arrives at the alley where Izuku is, Shouto launches a column of fire and ice at Stain, forcing the villain to dodge. Shouto reveals himself, telling Izuku that he should have texted him more information and that he was almost too late.[38]

Shouto attacks Stain with ice but he dodges, followed by a stream of fire that Stain also dodges. Shouto's attacks of ice and fire manage to bring Izuku and the injured Pro Hero to him. He then states that he won't let the villain kill them. Stain throws his dagger at Shouto's face and manages to land a cut on his face, and then appears before Shouto and attacks him with his dagger, but Shouto blocks the attack with a pillar of ice.

File:Shouto vs Stain.png

Looking up, he is distracted by Stain's katana, which is about to fall on him. Stain grabs Shouto and prepares to lick the blood off his face, but Shouto uses fire to knock him back. He attacks Stain with ice again, but the Hero Killer dodges and attempts to slash Shouto with his katana and dagger, but Shouto is able to defend himself with a small wall of ice.

Tenya begs Shouto to stop fighting as this is supposed to be his fight, causing Shouto to criticize Tenya, saying that the Ingenium he knows would not make a face like his. Shouto attacks the villain with great pillars of ice, attempting to block Stain's view. However, Stain cuts through Shouto's ice pillars with ease and throws two small daggers into Shouto's left arm. He then jumps into the air and prepares to stab Shouto with his katana.

File:Shouto agains the Hero Killer.png

Shouto encourages Tenya while Stain prepares to attack.

Suddenly, Izuku appears before him, the effect of the Hero Killer's Quirk having wore off, and grabs Stain, attempting to throw him onto the ground. The Hero Killer retaliates by knocking Izuku away with his elbow, causing Izuku to fall onto the ground. Stain then distances himself from Shouto and Izuku. Shouto tells Izuku that avoiding close quarters combat and holding out is their best course of action against Stain, to which Izuu agrees, telling Shouto that he will draw Stain's attention while he acts as support. Shouto states that they will protect Tenya and the Pro Hero.

Izuku tries to attack the Hero Killer, but Stain slashes at Izuku with his katana and then licks the blood on it, activating his Quirk, which paralyzes Izuku. Stain then sets his sight on Shouto, cutting through his wall of ice, removing Shouto's defense and preparing to attack him. As Tenya protests, Shouto encourages to be the man he set out to be.[39]

File:Izuku, Tenya and Shouto defeat Stain.png

The trio defeats the Hero Killer.

Shouto attacks Stain with a stream of ice and fire, but Stain dodges. As Stain is about to cut through Shouto with his katana, Tenya uses Recipro Burst and breaks the weapon in half with a kick. Stain tells Tenya that he is a fake Hero, and Shouto says that he should to pay no heed to Stain. Shouto attacks Stain with a stream of fire and keeps him at bay, concluding that he is not as powerful as one might think and that fighting against groups is his biggest disadvantage. Stain attacks Shouto with daggers, but Tenya intercepts his efforts. Shouto then cools down Tenya's leg enough for him to regain mobility. Shouto encourages Izuku and Tenya to press on with their attacks and the duo hits Stain with a punch and kick, respectively.[40]

File:Shouto watches Stain kill the Noumu.png

Stain makes one last attempt at killing Tenya, but he retaliates with a kick and Shouto shoots a stream of fire at Stain's face. Stain finally loses consciousness and is defeated. Tenya and Izuku land safely onto the ground thanks to Shouto's ice ramp. Shouto decides to tie up Stain with Izuku suggesting that they remove Stain's weapons.

Izuku, Shouto, Tenya and Native leave the alley with the unconscious restrained Stain in tow. Tenya offers to pull Stain, but Shouto refuses due to his arm being in bad shape. After Tenya apologizes for his actions, Shouto tells him to pull himself together because he is the Class President. Moments later, Shouto watches as the winged Noumu grabs Izuku and Stain wakes up and defeats it.[41]

File:Izuku, Tenya and Shouto at the hospital.png

Shouto, Izuku and Tenya discuss the battle.

Stain's mask falls off and reveals his true face, shocking Shouto. Stain walks forward and declares that the only one who is allowed to kill him is All Might, unleashing a malefic aura in the process. Shouto falls down onto the ground out of fear. After Stain loses consciousness, Shouto is shocked and speechless that he is still standing despite being unconscious.

The next day, after being taken to the Hosu General Hospital, Shouto, Izuku and Tenya discuss their previous battle with the Hero Killer. The Chief of Hosu Police, Tsuragamae Kenji, arrives, and tells the three that the Hero Killer is undergoing treatment. Tsurugamae states that the trio acted on their own without the supervision of their superiors and as such violated the rules, thus they, along with their superiors, will be punished.

File:Shouto's anger at Tsuragamae.png

Shouto argues with Tsuragamae.

Shouto becomes enraged over the fact that Tsuragamae expected them to follow the rules and let people die as a result, saying that the job of a Hero is saving people. Izuku, Gran Torino and Tenya stop Shouto. However, Tsuragamae states that there were limited witnesses and as a result there will not be any punishment for the trio, but they won't be receiving any praise from the public, as the events that occurred the previous day will be covered up. The three thank the Chief of Police for not punishing them. Tsuragamae thanks them for their heroic actions.[42]

File:Shouto talks about his curse.png

Shouto wonders about his "curse".

The following day, Izuku and Tenya discuss their hand injuries and promise each other to become stronger. Shouto apologizes, confusing Izuku. Shouto says that he seems to be cursed—whenever he is involved, people's hands go bad. Izuku and Tenya are surprised that Shouto can crack a joke, but he claims to be completely serious, calling himself a "hand crusher", causing the young Heroes to laugh.[43]

The workplace training comes to an end and Shouto returns to U.A.. During Foundational Hero Studies, Shouto watches the first group race through the construction site. Seeing Izuku's speedy movements, he notices that they remind him of someone.[44]

End of Term Test Arc

File:Shouto & Momo vs Shouta.png

Shouto is paired with Momo against Aizawa.

As Denki despairs over the upcoming end of term test, Shouto remarks that if he had just attended classes normally then he would not have such low grades. In the lunchroom, Izuku, Tenya, Shouto, Ochako, Tsuyu and Tooru eat at a table, discussing about how they will perform in the end of term test. Back in class, Katsuki declares that he will defeat not only Izuku but Shouto as well before storming off. On the day of the exercise test, the Principal reveals that Class 1-A will be fighting against U.A.'s teachers in their exercise test. Shouto is paired with Momo and they must face Shouta Aizawa in their exercise test.[45]

Shouto, Momo and Aizawa arrive in a replica city where their test exercise will take place. After the rules are explained, the test begins. Shouto asks Momo to create random objects in order detect when Aizawa has seen them, deducing the test will depend on who finds who first. Shouto says he will fight Aizawa while Momo makes an escape, and instructs Momo not to get separated from him until then.[46]

File:Aizawa binds Shouto.png

Aizawa binds Shouto.

Shouto is confused over what are the objects Momo is creating, and she explains to him they are Russian dolls. Momo says she's impressed with Shouto for being able to think of a strategy and have the judgement to make quick decisions. Shouto tells Momo that it's nothing special, but Momo sadly says that even though she is a recommended freshmen like him, she has yet to show any noteworthy results.

Suddenly, Shouto realizes that Aizawa is nearby, causing Momo to apologize for being distracted. The teacher appears from above, hanging from telephone wires. He comes down and Shouto attempts to attack him, but misses. Shouto tells Momo to run away. Aizawa then wraps his bandages around Shouto and hangs him from the telephone wires, tying them to a telephone pole. Shouto points out that he can break free from his bonds by using fire or ice, but Aizawa throws caltrops underneath him to stop Shouto from doing so. Before leaving, Aizawa commends Shouto for thinking of Momo, but points out that he should have instead listened to what she had to say.

File:Shouto encourages Momo.png

Shouto encourages Momo to go along with her plan.

As Aizawa pursues Momo, Shouto is still hanging from the telephone wires, thinking about what the teacher had said. Suddenly, Momo appears and apologizes to Shouto, being unable to decide what to do: rescue him or escape. Shouto apologizes to Momo for not taking her ideas into consideration and asks if she has something in mind. Momo says she does, but doesn't think it would work if Shouto's plan fell flat.

Shouto encourages Momo to put her plan into action, telling her that he voted for her during the Class President election because he feels she is fit for the role. Aizawa then appears above Momo, preparing to attack. Feeling more confident because of Shouto's words, Momo tells Shouto to close his eyes and throws the Russian dolls she created into the air. They open up to reveal flash grenades in them, preventing Aizawa from advancing and using his Quirk. Momo frees Shouto from the telephone wires, then confidently declares to him that she does have a plan to prevail over their opponent.[47]

Shouto creates a giant ice wall.

Aizawa launches his capturing weapon against Shouto and Momo, but they avoid the attack and Shouto counters by trying to use fire; however, Aizawa erases Shouto's Quirk. Momo and Shouto run to escape from Shouta's line of sight. Momo instructs Shouto to use his Quirk when Aizawa blinks. As soon as he has the opportunity, Shouto creates a humongous ice pillar that completely eclipses Aizawa's view. Unable to see anything, the teacher stands by.

Momo creates a replica of Aizawa's weapon and explains her plan to Shouto. The two then move away from the ice wall, while covered by black cloaks. Aizawa attacks the concealed duo with his capturing weapon, but only captures a mannequin Momo was holding. Momo fires the replica weapon from a catapult, and then tells Shouto to shoot heat along the ground. Shouto's fire causes Momo's weapon, made of allow with shape memory, to wrap itself around Aizawa, binding him. Afterwards, Momo and Shouto handcuff Shouta, which allows them to pass the practical test.

Shouto thanks Momo for making the plan prevail. Happy with the result, Momo is about to cry tears of joy. Shouto asks what is wrong and advises Momo that there is a pressure point on top of her foot to ease any pain, but Momo tells Shouto that nothing is wrong, rubbing her eyes.[48]

In class, Shouto learns that he has passed both the written and practical end of term tests, and will go to the forest lodge along with the rest of his classmates. He refuses the invite to go shopping with the rest of the class, saying that he visits someone on his days off.[49]

School Trip Arc

Students vs the Earth Beast

Shouto and his classmates defeat the dirt beast.

The day after the shopping trip at U.A., Aizawa informs Shouto and the rest of Class 1-A that the destination for their lodge trip has been changed. On the day of the event, Class 1-A boards a bus that will take them to the forest lodge destination. An hour later, the bus stops for a restroom break.

Suddenly, two females wearing cat-like costumes and a small boy appear; the females introduce themselves as the professional Hero Team, The Pussycats. The black haired female, Mandalay, explains to Class 1-A that they will be staying at the base of a mountain and that they have three hours to reach the location. The blonde female, Pixiebob, uses her Quirk to create a landslide that causes Class 1-A to fall into the forest below. Suddenly, they are confronted by an earth beast. Shouto, along with Katsuki, Tenya and Izuku use their Quirks to destroy it.[50]

Class 1-A arrive at the facility only 8 hours later, battered and tired. Pixiebob commends Shouto, Izuku, Tenya, and Katsuki for taking quick action against one of her Earth Beasts. After Katsuki comments that Kouta thinks he is an adult, Shouto says that Kouta reminds him of someone who also thinks he's an adult.

After fetch their luggage and put it in their rooms, Class 1-A has dinner and then head to the hot springs. The next day at 5:30 AM, Aizawa greets his students and tells them that they will undergo reinforcement training to strengthen and upgrade their Quirks which will also allow Class 1-A to obtain their temporary licenses.[51]

Shouto and Izuku talk about Kouta.

Shouto trains along with the rest of his class. Later that day, Pixiebob and Ragdoll provide Class 1-A the materials to make their own food from now on. As they cook, Mina asks Shouto to make some fire, causing Momo to remind everyone to not rely on someone else otherwise they won’t learn how to make food on their own. Shouto says it's fine and lights a fire for Mina anyway.

On the third day, Shouto continues his training along with his class and Class 1-B. That evening, while cooking dinner, Shouto asks Izuku what he wanted to talk to All Might about. Izuku replies that he wanted to talk to him about Kouta, because he is unable to help the boy, who dislikes the superhero society, with words. Shouto tells him that words alone will not help Kouta since he would find reasoning from strangers to be pretentious, and that he believes that action speaks louder than words.

Later that night, Shouto is paired with Katsuki for the test of courage. A few minutes after entering the forest, Yui scares Shouto and Katsuki, making the two freeze with fear. Soon after, the League of Villain's Vanguard Action Squad attacks the camp. Shouto, carrying an injured Kousei Tsuburaba, runs through the forest with Katsuki. While going back to the facility, Shouto and Katsuki encounter a villain admiring a severed arm on the ground. The villain turns his attention to Katsuki and Shouto.[52]

Shouto engages in combat with the villain, Moonfish, using his ice to block the villain’s teeth enlarging Quirk. Moonfish breaks through Shouto’s ice and nearly hits Katsuki with one of his teeth, only to be intercepted again Shouto’s ice. Shouto warns Katsuki to not use his Explosion Quirk due to the fear of igniting the poisonous gas and causing more chaos, much to Katsuki’s annoyance. Moon Fish continues breaking through Shouto’s ice defenses with Quirk while also using his teeth to maneuver himself around. Shouto analyses that retreat is not possible since they will get caught in the gas and concludes that he and Katsuki are in a bind.[53]

Shouto's worry.

Shouto is unable to fight properly while carrying Kousei. He tries his best to keep Moonfish at bay by blocking his path with ice. Katsuki becomes furious that he is unable to fight back, wanting to fire a huge explosion to stop the villain, but Shouto advises him against it. Suddenly, Mezou and Izuku arrive running at Katsuki and Shouto's location. Mezou asks one of them to make light. Before he can explain further, Moonfish senses Mezou and Izuku’s presence and sends one of his teeth to attack them. However, the rampaging Dark Shadow appears and uses its enormous claw to crush Moonfish, destroying his teeth. Shouto and Katsuki watch in shock.

Katsuki and Shouto manage to get close to Fumikage and use their Quirks, which calms down Dark Shadow; making it reduce in size and retract back into Fumikage. As Fumikage and Mezou reconcile, Shouto expresses his surprise over Fumikage's Dark Shadow being to defeat Moonfish in a single hit. The group decides that they should escort Katsuki back to the facility, and take a shortcut through the forest to do so. The Bakugou Escort Squad (consisting of Mezou, Shouto, Izuku and Fumikage) begins escorting a begrudging Katsuki back to the facility.

The group comes across Ochako and Tsuyu. The girls wonder why Katsuki isn’t with them. Mezou, Shouto and Izuku then realize that Fumikage and Katsuki are missing. Suddenly, a masked villain appears on a tree branch and reveals that he used his “magic” to take Katsuki by turning him into a marble. The masked villain, known as Mr. Compress, says that Katsuki will shine brighter on the villains’ side.[54]

After handing Kousei to Ochako, Shouto attempts to freeze Compress, but he avoids Shouto's attacks and begins to flee. Before Shouto attempts to give chase, Izuku comes up with a strategy to save Fumikage and Katsuki. They execute the plan: Tsuyu wraps her tongue around Izuku, Mezou and Shouto while Ochako uses her Quirk to make them weightless. Tsuyu throws the weightless trio towards Compress. They land on the villain and smash him onto the ground. Izuku, Shouto and Mezou then see that they are right in front of Dabi, Himiko and Twice.[55]

Dabi launches his flames towards the boys. Compress gets away, Shouto manages to dodge Dabi’s flames, but Izuku and Mezou don't. In an instant, Twice appears behind Shouto and attacks him, but Shouto blocks the attack with his ice. Shouto continues to hold back Twice until Mezou reveals that he took the marbles from Compress.

As Izuku and Shouto rush to backup Mezou, Kurogiri arrives and blocks their path. After Himiko, Twice and the Noumu escape, Compress reveals that the marbles Mezou took are not the captured targets, but decoys. The marbles Mezou took transform into ice. Compress removes his mask and sticks out his tongue, revealing the real marbles. From behind a bush, Yuuga fires his Navel Laser at Compress’s face, making him spit out the marbles. Izuku, Mezou and Shouto rush to grab them. Mezou grabs the marble containing Fumikage. Shouto is almost in reach of the marble containing Katsuki, but Dabi snatches it away before Shouto can grab it. Compress deactivates his Quirk, freeing Fumikage and Katsuki. Shouto watches as Katsuki is teleported away with the villains.[56]

Hideout Raid Arc

Two days after the incident, Shouto and the rest of his classmates visit Izuku in the hospital. Shouto and Eijirou state their plan to rescue Katsuki after overhearing Momo talking about a device that can locate a transmitter she placed on one of the villains. However, most of Class 1-A are against the idea. Shouto leaves after the doctor needs to checkup on Izuku.

Later that night, Shouto along Eijirou wait for Izuku and Momo. They arrive, but before Momo can speak, Tenya appears, angry that they are about to repeat the same mistake he made at Hosu. Shouto tells Tenya that they will not engage the villains in combat, and Eijirou explains that they're planning a covert mission. Momo states that she came along to accompany them all in order to prevent them from engaging in combat. Tenya decides to go with them.[57]

Disguised.

Shouto along with Izuku, Momo, Tenya and Eijirou board a train to travel to a place called Kamino Ward, located in Yokohama City in the Kanagawa Prefecture. At the location, the group puts on disguises to prevent the League of Villains from recognizing them. They exit the clothing shop and witness a video clip of U.A.'s public apology.[58]

Shouto along with Eijirou, Izuku, Momo and Tenya continue towards the place that Momo's tracking device is detecting. After waiting for a while near the place, Momo, Tenya, Shouto, Eijirou and Izuku prepare to infiltrate the supposed League of Villains’ hideout.[59]

Shouto along with the group go to the back of the hideout and see a window. Shouto and Tenya have Izuku and Eijirou stand on their shoulders to see what is inside using the night-vision goggles Eijirou brought along. Suddenly, Mount Lady destroys the front of the warehouse which shocks Shouto.[60]

Seeing that the Pro Heroes are at the warehouse, Shouto and the group assume that All Might is with Katsuki as they are speaking. Shouto and the group decide to head home. Suddenly, the entire warehouse is completely destroyed by a mysterious man along with the surrounding area being significantly damaged. The man's aura above them utterly terrifies Izuku, Eijirou and Shouto.[61][62]

As the battle between All Might, Sensei, Katsuki and the League of Villains continue, Izuku knows that they are in a crisis and there aren’t any openings to rescue Katsuki due to Sensei’s presence and Katsuki being outnumbered by the Vanguard Action Squad. Suddenly, Izuku comes up with an idea and explains the plan to Shouto and the rest of the group.

Izuku puts his plan into action; Izuku and Tenya hold onto Eijirou with Izuku using One For All Full Cowl and Tenya using his Recipro Burst to burst through the wall while Eijirou uses his Hardening to protect himself, Izuku and Tenya. After Izuku, Tenya and Eijirou burst through the wall, Shouto creates an ice ramp; Izuku Tenya and Eijirou jump off Shouto’s ice ramp and head into the sky. Sensei sees the trio and attempts to attack them, but All Might intervenes by punching Sensei. Katsuki sees the trio while Eijirou yells at Katsuki to take his hand. Tomura tries to take Katsuki, but Katsuki uses his Explosion to launch himself towards Izuku, Tenya and Eijirou. Katsuki grabs Eijirou’s hand and smiles.[63]

Seeing that Izuku, Eijirou and Tenya have succeeded in rescuing Katsuki, Shouto and Momo begin escaping from the battlefield.[64]

Shouto and Momo successfully escape. Shouto phones Izuku and finds out that him and his group are at the train station.[65]

Shouto and Momo meet up with Izuku's group. They take Katsuki to a Police Station for his safety. Afterwards, Shouto parts ways and goes home. Shouto arrives at the Todoroki Abode where his sister greets him and states that their father is in the training hall. Shouto walks by the training room and assumes that his father will take the position of Number One Hero now that All Might can no longer fight. Shouto sees the training hall, only to find that the room is nearly in shambles due to Endeavor’s rage; Endeavor refuses to accept the position of Number One Hero.[66]
