Can you do me a favor and look over the section of the image policy regarding licensing and tagging. Please license all your photos with the fairuse template and tag all the characters in the image as well as the episode they're from. It would save me a lot of work and headache. Also be weary of crowding pages with pictures. I did the same thing when I first joined. Thank you.
I'd like to offer you the same advice I got when I started adding images to the wiki. I love your effort and I'd like to help you grow as an editor here.
First, Try to use images that are dynamic (that have something going on in them). Many of your images are of characters not really doing much of anything and you can only tell whats going on through the caption. Images are meant to illustrate whole scenes and can be especially helpful to users who haven't seen the show. If that's the case and they see a photo with nothing going on in it, they'd likely be confused. Also, if you're going to post a picture on a characters page, that character should always be featured in that picture. I noticed you put a photo of Sero taping Todoroki on his page. In that case, it's best just to leave the picture with Sero frozen on its own.
Which brings me to my next point. You should also be mindful of cluttering pages with images. Pictures are nice additions, but the words are the focus. If you put too many pictures in a section you're distorting the text and ultimately doing the opposite of decorating.
When you add the dimensions of a picture to a thumbnail you only need the width (220px rather than 220x220px). Also always use the characters first names in captions and the image name.
I really got hounded by admins and veteran users when I was editing images. You've been lucky enough to have more freedom, but for whats best for the wiki I hope you take my advice.
P.S. don't include fight categories in image tagging. If you could remove those from the images you uploaded that would be great.
Sorry for not telling you beforehand but I've started to do my anime screencaps project, which requires me to upload screenshots from each episode. I'm doing this because most galleries don't have complete set of screenshots, this is prominent to side characters' galleries.
Please restore them back, and I'll show you how it works (I'm currently working on it here. I'm an admin of Danganronpa Wiki with more than 48,000 edit counts. I'm a professional Wiki editor for years, and I know what I'm doing to grow this community. I'm sorry to say that it's very rude to delete someone's work without telling them beforehand. Message Wall exists to serve this purpose, communicating with each other, and I'm terribly upset because I put my whole heart into completing + taking screenshots which is a very time consuming work.
I'd greatly appreciate if you would restore them back. Thank you.
I'm looking for a decent anime screenshots of my favorite characters, and they barely have one. So I figure out that I might as well add it myself, this will also tremendously improve the quality of each episode's gallery. However, if all staff members consent to throw this opportunity away, doesn't want to host complete anime screenshots despite being the only English-language BNHA Wiki, and prefer to have a cluttered anime galleries, I can't help but to feel terribly disappointed. I thought the admins would agree to it because this Wiki actually needs some serious image modding.
I know but we have as many images for each episode as we need. Anymore means we won't have enough space on the actual space which ruins layout and leads to unused images and I'd hardly call them cluttered
We are working on the messy galleries, and the galleries need only important screenshots that explain the story, not 5 images that all explain the same thing. For example you upload 3 images of Izuku protecting that random child, you only needed one if all three tell the same exact thing.
I'm planning to upload all of them in my sandbox, sorting images that could be added into a new page where it contains screenshots only from BnHA Episode 1. I haven't filtered which one will be the most suitable, hence why I'm putting it in my sandbox instead of live publishing it to the Wiki.
Making a nice gallery layout is an easy thing to do, but it's very time-consuming so no one should expect an immediate result of the project. I've envisioned to create a sub page like "My Hero Academia/Episode 01" for each individual episodes. From that, I only move significant screenshots to each of the character's galleries, leaving the detailed ones in the Episode gallery only.
Sadly you guys don't even give me a chance to show you how it works, and don't even bother to tell me anything beforehand. Just straight up deleting it without giving me any notice at all. Is that how a good staff supposed to work? Lmao. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
OK except you were posting them to the wiki as "Before the Opening (1)" and so on till you got to 24. and if you see images with poor filenames i would advise adding a poor filename template to the description which will add it to the poor filename category
Reorganizing the screenshots into a chronological list, sure, that's being done for characters' galleries, too. It does help with the aesthetics of the wiki and does aid finding the images you want to use in an article.
Screencapping whole episodes and uploading them to the wiki runs into conflict with wikia's rules:
"There is no limit to the number of files you can upload, but images and other files should be uploaded for use on the wiki - they shouldn't be used just as file stores!"
If you want to demonstrate your design, use the images already present on the wiki.
A set of image, in this case anime screenshots. They should be named "My Hero Academia Episode 01 - Image Description" to ease the readers/editors to search it in search engine. This would also become a tremendous help for you guys mod the appearing images.
I have my own reason why I put specific images in the poor filenames category that need to be renamed. Like, would you name an image as "Katsdad.png"...?
It doesn't exist somehow. It's more effective to put them right in the filename rather than using the category. But you know, if you guys really don't want to then OK. I won't bother it anymore.
However, if there is another editor whose edits look very nuisance and barely legal looking to you guys, pplease, by all means, do tell them by messaging them in their Message Wall. It's very rude to just remove their hard work without even discussing it with them. I was terribly shocked and upset when all files that I uploaded were gone. Thank god I found you guys discussing it in Discord so I can talk to you guys about it. I don't think you will bother to even talk to me if I didn't message you lmao. Talk about being harsh.
If you shift the blame on me it's fine. At that time I was only warming up and I plan to tell you guys when I finished the first episode's screenshots. You didn't give me any chance to even finish it. But eh, whatever I guess.
As an actual admin (Halo & Kakarots are content moderators) and the person responsible for most of the images on site, I feel like I need to say something.
Rikuya, I appreciate your efforts to do something different and help the wiki in your own way. However, we do have our own image policy and that policy is to be followed by everyone regardless of their experience in editing. I don't appreciate you marking images with Poor Filenames when they're fine according to the policy. I completely disagree with the sentiment that our images are named poorly. The names are descriptions of the picture. I would be terribly annoyed if I had to put "My Hero Academia Episode 01 - Image Description" on every photo when I can just search the image by its description.
I'm the one who implemented the image tagging system we use to organize our screenshots by categories. Before I came along, there wasn't a system in place. So I told everyone what I was going to do and now everyone has followed suit. Now we have an effective way of organizing our images. For you to call that not uniform and cluttered is frankly ridiculous and insulting.
Despite my irritation, I can sympathize with your point of view. I came here as a seasoned editor and I've uploaded the majority of the anime screenshots here myself. Believe me when I say that I understand it's an intense amount of work. When I first started here, my content got deleted and I got a lot of pushback when I was trying to make a change. So I decided to start announcing what I was doing beforehand and get the okay from all the other editors here. It's rarely easy, but I've found working together is the best course of action when trying to do something different. You can't come here and expect to take charge of something as big as renaming every image, uploading multiple duplicates and unusable images. You should try to work that out beforehand and perhaps you would have never wasted your own time.
Halo, Dragonus, Kakarots, and I work very hard on trying to organize all the images here. It's a work in progress, but I appreciate their work and I trust their judgment. I don't entirely agree with deleting your hard work without informing you first. But I do think it was smart to get the images off-site before they caused new problems for us while we're still trying to sort out old problems.
That being said, we don't have time to go around all the images you wrongfully tagged under Poor Filename. So if you could, please remove that category from EVERY image you placed it on. Then we can move forward to a compromise between ideas.
Finally a rather long and serious answer that I've been waiting for, I really appreciate it. I'm sorry if I came across as being too agressive and taking charge of things. All I did was trying to offer something better for the Wiki, which becomes an indifferent idea to you guys. So I'd like to apologize for the incovenience. I really do want to organize the galleries, adding scenes that is missing from it.
I have my own reasoning why I tag them under the poor filenames category, so I wouldn't untag them for now because I also have other things to do. If I have the power to rename them I would already did that.
Examples of poorly renamed files are:
"Big 1471691351 image.jpg" (Pretty obvious why it's so bad)
"Himiko-chan.png" (should be named as "Anime Character Designs - Himiko Toga" or something similar)
Because it's presented on the wiki's rules that "If the image depicts a specific character alone (ex. a profile picture, a full body picture, hero costume picture) specify it and whether it is a present or past picture on the file name. (Ex: Katsuki Bakugou's Hero Costume, Izuku Midoriya's Mother (Past)". So I tag all of images contain an individual character with their first/family name under the poor filenames category.
"AllMight SKETCH.png" (should be given a space there)
"Izuku's Mother Profile (Present).png" (because her name is already revealed, should be named as "Inko Midoriya's Profile (Present).png" or something similar)
"Izuku Offers Ochako A Strategy.png" (doesn't need to be capitalized, so -> "Izuku offers Ochaco a strategy.png" or something similar)
I'd suggest for you guys to rename the one with the worse filenames and notice me once again if you want me specifically to be the one who should remove images that you guys are skeptical for having a poor filename.
I just wanted to ask you a question, but I'm not sure if you are the right contact person. Still, maybe you can help me out:
As a not native english speaker, I don't know if I got it right, but am I correct if I assume, that spoilers about only just scanlated Chapters, like chapter 185, which was already scanlated today are not allowed in the Discussions? And if so, I read about a spoiler page or sth. like it in the discussion Guidelines, but couldn't find it. Is there a link to it?
In any case, thx for answering in advance and sry for the inconvenience.
Posted my request on KingCannons Message Wall, but it seems like he deleted it (can someone do that? Or is it gone bcs. of another reason?). :/ Am I overreacting in regard to the discussion page or is it just no that important?
Hello, I'm relatively new to the Wiki and I'm not that good at editing so please forgive me if this is a simple thing I just don't understand. But, I was looking at the Himiko Toga pics on the wiki and I noticed that one of the pics in the Forest Training arc (the one with all the villains in the bar) belongs in the Hideout Raid arc, going by its anime counterpart. However, when I tried to edit it, it said "Sorry, this element can only be edited in source mode for now". I'm not really sure what that means and I have no idea if this is a topic for a mod to deal with, but I didn't know where else to ask. Sorry for being the inconvienience and thanks for your support!
Basically it means you have to edit the source code directly rather than the visual part. You can get there by clicking on the [ ] symbol so a dropdown menu with the option for source mode comes up. Then just copy and paste the file link into the correct section
Hello again, hate to be a bother but I am having issues and I am not entierly sure how to fix them. Essentially, I cannot comment on any of the discussion posts. I have frequently commented in the past, I have made discussion posts and I enjoy getting to talk with the community there. My computer died earlier, however, and when I reloaded the tab it wouldn't let me reply, it says "Sign in to join the discussion!" but I am signed in. I signed out and logged back in and I got the same thing. I don't know if it's a problem that can be fixed, if it is something I did, or what, but I have no idea. Thank you for your time in helping with the issue!
Oddly enough, I just put my computer on standby (I didn't turn it off but let it go to sleep) and now this morning I am able to reply to comments. If the issue comes up again I guess I'll let my computer sleep or restart it. Again, sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the support!
