U.A. Sports Festival Arc

Rin uses his Quirk during the Obstacle Race

All of Class 1-B participates in the Obstacle Race along with the rest of the 1st-year students. When Shoto Todoroki causes one of the Villain Robots to collapse, Hiryu suggests to the participants to team up temporarily to move the robots out of the way. He is revealed to be one of the few students who doesn't agree with Neito Monoma's plan to stay in low ranks to overthrow Class 1-A, although he scores 32th place in the Obstacle Race.[1][2]

After the previous event, he teams up with fellow classmate Jurota Shishida in the Cavalry Battle. He attempts to snatch Team Midoriya's headband like many other competitors but Team Todoroki ends up freezing multiple rival teams, including his. Hiryu and Itsuka Kendo watch in despair as Shoto makes off with their stolen headbands. As the event ends, Hiryu is unable to continue to the tournament finals.[3]

Forest Training Camp Arc

Vlad King and Class 1-B

Vlad King tells his students to push themselves beyond their limits.

On the day of the forest lodge trip, when Neito Monoma mocks Class 1-A, Hiryu is seen observing.[4]

When Class 1-B arrives at the training camp. Homeroom teacher Vlad King explains they will be extending their Quirks and the more they use their Quirks, the stronger they will be by breaking their limits. Class 1-B witness Class 1-A's training and Hiryu notes that seeing their rivals push themselves to their limits is quite terrifying in terms of overwork. The Wild, Wild Pussycats appear to explain that they will be there to help and guide them in their training.[5]

On the night of the third day, Class 1-B acts as the scaring group during the test of courage exercise. However, that night the Vanguard Action Squad also attacks the camp. He’s one of the many people incapacitated and placed in critical condition by Mustard's gas.[6]

Shie Hassaikai Arc

Neito Monoma reveals that all of Class 1-B have passed the Provisional License Exam.[7]

U.A. School Festival Arc

Like the rest of his classmates, Hiryu participates in the U.A. School Festival by playing a role in Class 1-B's "Romeo, Juliet and the Prisoner of Azkaban: The Return of the Kings!"

Joint Training Arc

Round 1 Start!

Round 1 Start!

Shota Aizawa and Vlad King hold a Joint Training exercise between their classes during the early days of winter, with Hitoshi Shinso as a guest for this exercise, due being reviewed for consideration into the Hero Course. Hiryu and the rest of Class 1-B are pitted against Class 1-A as part of the Joint Training Battle.

Vlad King and Shota begin the exercise immediately afterward. Each class chooses lots to split into five teams of four. Hiryu is paired up with Jurota Shishida, Ibara Shiozaki, and Kosei Tsuburaba for the first round of the exercise against Eijiro Kirishima, Denki Kaminari, Tsuyu Asui, Koji Koda and Hitoshi Shinso.

Shiryu stays in the rear while his three teammates ambush Class 1-A.[8] In the confrontation they manage to capture Eijiro and Koji. Shiryu reunites with his remaining teammates to discusses their strategy. He is worried for Kosei's capture but Jurota is optimistic of their victory. Suddenly, he smells Tsuyu approaching to their position from three different directions. To confuse Jurota sense of smell, class 1-A had covered their bodies with the mucus that Tsuyu secreted.[9]

As Ibara extends her Vine Quirk to defend the team, Hiryu wonders how their locations were uncovered only to notice one of Denki's pointers on Jurota's body. Just then, Ibara captures one of Class 1-A members and brings it forward. Since they don't know who Ibara captured, Hiryu warns Jurota to get back in case it's Denki. His worst fears are confirmed, and Denki tries to shock Jurota with his sharpshooting just as Ibara starts covering him in her vines. Hiryu uses his scales to knock the pointer off of Jurota just before Denki's attack hits. Ibara then completely encloses him within the vine sphere.

Having successfully defended against Denki, Hiryu seemingly shouts to Ibara to send out some more vines in anticipation of their remaining two opponents. Ibara suddenly becomes Brainwashed, with Hitoshi having imitated Hiryu's voice. It turns out that they have fallen into the trap of class 1-A. Denki offered to use himself as a bait to give Tsuyu and Hitoshi an opening.

Hiryu can't tell where Hitoshi is because the voice is echoing. Afraid to speak, Jurota simply points out the enemies location. Hiryu tries to wake up Ibara by shooting his scales but Tsuyu captures her with her tongue. Jurota searches the field for enemies and ignores Hiryu's pleas for help. Hiryu quickly realizes that Shinso has destroyed their communication. Tsuyu quickly returns in her camo form and dropkicks Hiryu, defeats him and then throws him into Jurota head. Hiryu yells at Jutora to get away, but he thinks Shinso tries to cheat him using his voice changer, but realizes too late that it's not like that. The heads of both students collide, and both are unconscious.

Tsuyu and Hitoshi carry a restrained Hiryu to the jail cell while a brainwashed Ibara carries Jurota. Round 1 ends with a 4-2 victory for Class 1-A.[10] Vlad King scolds his students for not choosing either Ibara or Jurota as their leader.[11] After the match, Hiryu watches the remaining rounds. The Joint Training Battle ends with victory for class 1-A.[12] Despite the fierce competition and the result, the exercise ends on good terms between both classes, and later Class 1-B visits Class 1-A's dormitories for socializing and dinner.[13]

Endeavor Agency Arc

With the start of the second Hero Works-Studies, he teams up with Yosetsu Awase.[14]
