Hellflame (ヘルフレイム Heru Fureimu?)[1] is the Quirk used by Enji Todoroki.

Description[]

Hellflame is an extremely powerful Quirk that allows the user to generate and manipulate intense and powerful flames at will.

Enji can generate large fire blasts to incinerate his opponents and cover his body in flames. Changing the fire's temperature is also possible, which means that their damage output can increase or decrease depending on Enji's wishes.[2] The anime adaptation shows that those flames can heat up to the point of turning blue.[3]

Shoto Todoroki inherited this Quirk as the left side of his Half-Cold Half-Hot Quirk, while Toya Todoroki inherited a more powerful version of Hellflame in the form of his Blueflame Quirk.

Weaknesses[]

Hellflame will raise Enji's body temperature to dangerous levels if overused due to successive powerful attacks or drawn-out battles, impairing his physical abilities.[4] Unlike his son, Shoto, whose ice serves as a coolant for his flames, Enji can only revitalize himself by relying on outside help, such as other heroes cooling him down with firehoses.[5]

While Hellflame can function in the rain, wet weather can still hinder the Quirk and cause Enji to lose his usual speed.[6]

Although Hellflame provides Enji with considerable tolerance to higher temperatures, this tolerance still has its limits, as seen when he started to receive some burns during his fight against Dabi.[7]

Usage[]

Enji keeps his body in a flaming state to look more imposing as the Flame Hero: Endeavor.

Various applications of Hellflame in action.

Endeavor fights by using his flames to overwhelm his opponents with extreme heat. His attacks include large-scale flamethrowers, precise heat rays, and fists of fire, among other options.

Endeavor uses low-temperature flames on weaker opponents as a warning shot that normally incapacitates Endeavor's targets or to minimize the strain on his body. The Flame Hero raises the heat whenever he's trying to finish off the opponent; high-temperature attacks are meant to defeat foes definitively, as they raise Enji's body temperature significantly--a high-risk tactic that can backfire if he uses too many of these techniques.

Hellflame can also prevent Endeavor from falling by expelling fire jets through the soles of his feet, suspending the Flame Hero in mid-air. He can also eject flames from his back or feet to propel himself forward through the air, essentially giving him the ability to fly. This same ability can be used as a reverse thrust should Endeavor need to resist an attack.

Endeavor's signature move is called Flashfire Fist. It raises the flames to their maximum temperature to create a powerful heat ray that vaporizes any target. The heat from this attack raises Enji's body temperature to its limit and immediately impairs his abilities in the future.

The anime shows more combat applications for Hellflame. Endeavor can shape his flames to function like various weapons and heat the soles of his feet to anchor himself to walls through molten footprints, allowing him to run along their surface. Burning down a target at a cellular level is possible for him as well, letting him bypass healing or regenerative Quirks with flames of extreme temperatures.[3]

As seen during the Jaku Hospital Raid, Endeavor can also use the heat from Hellflame to cauterize severe injuries as he did with Mirko following her battle against the High-End Nomus.[8]

After losing his right arm during the battle against All For One, Endeavor uses his Quirk to generate a fist made out of fire in place of that said arm.[9] In the same battle, he also uses his Quirk to shoot beams of fire from his eyes.[10]

Named Ultimate Moves[]

Flashfire Fist Flashfire Fist ( (かく) (しゃく) (ねっ) (けん) Kaku Shakunekken?): Endeavor's signature technique, he raises his fire's temperature to its highest level and maximizes his power. Doing so, the Flame Hero can unleash devastating flame attacks or increase his speed dramatically.
Jet Burn (ジェットバーン Jettobān?): Enji shoots flames out the back of his fist to propel it forward and delivers a powerful blow to the enemy. This was first seen used against Hood.[11] Flashfire Fist - Jet Burn
Hell Spider (ヘルスパイダー Herusupaidā?): Enji shoots streams of fire out of his fingers to burn his enemy. The flames take a form similar to a spider's web, hence the name. Enji is seen to conjure the flames into something looking somewhat like a whip. The flames are hot enough to burn through Hood's muscles and dice a building apart.[12] Flashfire Fist - Hell Spider with two hands
Prominence Burn (プロミネンスバーン Purominensu Bān?): Enji burns brightly and intensely before shooting out a beam of highly pressurized flames. This attack is strong enough to overwhelm Hood's Super Regeneration and to incinerate it. However, the creature survives by tearing off its own head.[4] Prominence Burn
PLUS ULTRA Prominence Burn (PLUS (プルス) ULTRA (ウルトラ) プロミネンスバーン Purusu Urutora Purominensu Bān?): Going beyond his limit and grappling his target, Endeavor unleashes a Prominence Burn that is more powerful than the original, enabling him to put away villains, like the High-End Nomu, Hood.[13][14] Plus Ultra Prominence Burn
Hell's Curtain (ヘル カーテイン Heru Kātein?): Enji throws both of his fists back while concentrating all of his flames into a single point. He then throws his arms forward, throwing a massive blanket of flames on to his opponent.[15] Hell's Curtain
Ignited Arrow Ignited Arrow (イグナイテッドアロー Igunaiteddo Arō?): Endeavor shapes his flames into a harpoon-like arrow and throws it forcefully.
Karmic Raze - Hellfire Storm attack Hellfire Storm (ヘルファイアストーム Herufaiasutōmu?): This attack allows Endeavor to create a powerful flaming whirlwind that burns opponents within its range.[16]
Raging Assault - Hell Minefield Hell Minefield (ヘルマインフィールド Herumainfīrudo?): This attack allows Endeavor to erupt a wave of intense flames across the ground.[17]
Vanishing Fist Vanishing Fist (バニシングフィスト Banishingu Fisuto?): Endeavor rushes towards his opponent while engulfing his arm in flames before delivering a powerful hook punch. This technique was first used against Tomura Shigaraki in the Paranormal Liberation War.
Vanishing Jet Burn Vanishing Jet Burn (バニシングジェットバーン Banishingu Jettobān?): A combination of Jet Burn and Vanishing Fist, Endeavor forms a giant fist using his flames and blasts his opponent away with great force.[10]
