This has been long overdue. The purpose of this post is to address the issues that have been following Discussions since its unveiling and come up with solutions that will make most people happy. Up until now, the majority of the administration team has paid very little if any attention to Discussions and I apologize for that. I myself have done as much as I could, but there's only so much one person can do. Now for some FAQs.
1. Q: Why haven't you banned so and so?
2. Q: Why didn't you just promote Discussion Mods?
A: While administrators do have the ability to promote Discussions Moderators, we can't just make that call on a whim. There are procedures to be followed, requirements to be met, and more. Community input is valuable because you guys know this part of the community better than the majority of us and can provide valuable insight. Also, all admins should be present and have a say in these matters.
One thing that this is definitely going away in the coming weeks is shipping posts in its entirety and we will issue bans for it. They are repetitive and always cause arguments. My plan for fan art is to either give its own category or just make a giant thread for it for everyone to post. We don't know what you guys want, so now is your chance to make your voices heard. As for Staff, this is the chance to suggest new rule changes as well.
Discussions Moderator Promotions:
In order to enforce upcoming policy changes and to maintain a healthy and friendly environment for Discussions we are going to need some new Discussions Moderators. Discussions Moderators have the ability to lock and delete posts here. Ideally, 3 would be best based off what I have seen in other communities as a Global Discussions Moderator. There should be enough moderation to cover a 24-hour period and to have a back up when the sole Discussions Moderator has an emergency or needs time off.
Requirements (Sample not Gospel):
1. Very User-Centric.
The community sets the tone and self-regulates, but its behavior does not depend on structure or functionality of Discussions. Discussions moderators provide the structure, guide conversation and shape the community. Basically, we want to someone who is actively engaging with the community and occasionally commenting on posts. If you have been here since the beginning (March 2018) and still active then you have an advantage in this particular area.
2. Dealing with High volume and Frequency.
Sometimes it's difficult to check every Discussions reply on a larger community. Thus, Discussions is usually moderated in teams. Being able to cooperate and collaborate with your peers will be absolutely essentially. Going off and doing your own thing will only get you so far. As a Discussion Moderator, encourage the community to help, by reporting posts and being aware of the rules.
3. Stat Specifics
Having a strong post history and lots of reports is the best way of showing you're suitable. For Rollbacks, Content Mod and Admins there's an editing requirement, but since this part wiki has nothing to do with editing Discussions Posts and Reports will be taken into consideration instead in addition to having an account on Fandom for at least three month. In short the breakdown:
A. At least have an account that is 3 months old
B. Have at least 20 Discussions Posts
C. Showing a history of making genuine reports helps, but not a deal breaker (given that the rules here were never clear)
D. No history of bans of any kind
E. Time Zone (we want to have the majority of the day covered)
Anyone is free to nominate themselves or be nominated by another admin provided they meet the above requirements and can provide a reason explaining how you/he/she could help Discussions and what you/he/she can give to the forum. Purpose of this post is to gather candidates. Official voting will take place prior to appointment on the Law Book page as they are supposed to be later. Nomination period will last 1 week and subsequent voting period will last 1 week.
